Khamang Celery

Story:
This is really one of those recipes that I can call my own.. well.. almost..
I make a common Marathi salad quite often and it is a guaranteed hit with all my guests - especially the non-marathi ones - It is called khamang kakadi! Kakadi literally means cucumber in Marathi. So it is a type of cucumber salad.

For this recipe - I have replaced cucumber with Celery.

Time: 1/2 hour

Ingredients:
  • 3-4 finely chopped celery sticks (To make khamang kakadi - replace celery with 1 english cucumber)
  • 3 spoons of daanyacha koot (crushed roasted peanuts - it is not a fine powder)
  • sugar, salt to taste
  • 1.5 tbspoons of fresh lemon juice
Recipe:
Mix the finely cut celery with salt, sugar, lemon juice and danyacha koot.

make tadka with 1 spoon of oil, 1/2 spoon mustard seeds, 2/3 curry leaves and a green chilly
Add this tadka to the above mixture.
Mix well. I like to remove the green chilly at this point. This salad tastes good even without tadka!

To get the authentic marathi taste - garnish with Khobara Kothimbeer - shredded fresh coconut and 2-3 spoons of finely cut coriander leaves
